Mirror is a very simple but strong vastu tool. Traditionally, mirrors have been associated with vanity and beauty. From mirror-studded furniture to large, opulent pieces seen on palace walls, one can see the rampant use of mirrors all through history. Mirrors play an intrinsic part in enhancing the beauty of the space they are placed in.
It was earlier believed that the reflection of bed in the mirror or the dressing table has a negative impact on health and relationships of people using the bedroom.
But as per scientific vastu shastra approach, mirror represents the water element. The impact of placement of mirror can be only measured by the direction in which it is placed, the best position of mirror is North which is the direction for water element.
Impact of mirror in different directions
- South east – South East is the Vastu zone of fire and cash flow. Placing a mirror, which a water element, is like adding water to fire. It will create imbalance in the energies in the South East zone. It will start affecting cash flow/income of individual adversely.
- South south east – This the direction for power and confidence. Anti-element like mirror will adversely affect the confidence of people staying in this place.
- South west – This direction is the direction for relationship. And mirror in this direction will impact social, family, and any kind of relationship adversely.
- South south west – This is the zone of disposal and mirror is anti-element here. People using mirror in this direction suffer from loss of health and lot of wastage.
- North and East direction are compatible to water element and hence mirror can be placed here.

Remedial measures
Ideal option is to ensure there is no mirror in a particular zone, where it is not compliant as per vast. Sometimes it is not possible to move the mirror from the place where it is placed. In such cases there are some techniques which will help nullify the bad effect of mirror in that zone. Such balancing can be done with the help of colours and by framing the mirror in the colour of that particular zone.
Mirrors create a depth – The basis of vastu is the energy flow. Mirrors hence became a powerful tool to enhance the energy of any area. If any area of the house requires enhancing, then we place the mirror.
It is also said that if you keep a mirror in cash box, it will double up the cash by its enhancing power.
